Failure Analysis of an Arresting Hook Point Shank
During full-scale fatigue testing, an F/A-18 E/F arresting hook point shank failed after 1,361 simulated arrestments. This part is designed to last 4,500 arrestments without cracking. Therefore, an investigation was undertaken to determine the cause of premature catastrophic failure.
