Description
Summary:Ancient Greece moved away from the concept of art in its magic meaning and it discovered another direction, that one of the myths which play the role of warnings, of critics towards a society to which they pass an idea of a pre-established order, above all men. These must be vigilants and should not dare too much under risk of punishment. This was what happened to mythical characters such as Pygmalion, the creative artist of life, or Prometheus whose ambition was punished. The magician ambition to equalize the Gods interfering in reality is from now on punished. This is the new order- both moral and civil. This way, the name of the Creator is kept to the Divine Entity, the Creator of Nature, therefore the Supernatural Being. This is why the artist must be satisfied with the role of recreating reality, by reproducing it. It is the association of gesture with word, but most importantly the visual effect that turns theatre into the best way to spread the myths. This same effect was a success in painting. This kind of secularization of art inaugurates the occidental conception of a mimetic art of which the Platonic texts work out as founders. By taking on the status of appearance or of resemblance without reality, Art becomes a game.
