description An improved Intra-domain mobility management protocol (IDMP) based Macro-mobility management (IDMP-MM) mechanism is proposed in heterogeneous wireless networks. It adopts Layer-2 fast handoff trigger the edge-cells controller to improve intradomain mobility, and the pre-registration method with the aid of address-table mapping between mobility agents to enhance interdomain mobility. The procedures of intradomain and interdomaln handoff in IDMP-MM are described respectively, and the performance measurements of IDMP-MM are evaluated. The simulation results show that IDMP- MM mechanism can provide efficient mobility management to reduce the global signaling cost, the number of buffering in-flight packets, and execute fast handoff for ongoing calls.
