Summary: | Ring‐opening metathesis polymerization is used to construct the well‐known photoresponsive 1,2‐dithienylethene backbone for the generation of ultra‐high‐density photochromic main‐chain polymers (see Figure). The photochromic monomer unit can be easily functionalized to create polymers with diverse structural and electronic properties. Both lipophilic and hydrophilic versions of the polymer have been prepared. |
