Summary: | The Front Cover (designed by Rika Mizoguchi) shows a Metal Ionic Liquid fertilizer catalyzing the growth of perfectly alternating copolymers of various epoxides and cyclic anhydrides, represented as growing vines. In their Research Article, M. E. Fieser and co‐workers explore the combination of rare earth metal trichloride salts with a phosphonium chloride ionic liquid to form metal‐containing ionic liquids. These metal‐containing ionic liquids (MIL) were catalytically active for the perfectly alternating copolymerization of six different monomer pairs, with suppression of side reactions. How the MIL was formed and/or dried was found to be more important to the polymerization rate and presence of chain transfer reactions than the metal ion choice. These MILs exhibited improved rates of polymerization and faster growth of high molecular weight polymers than previous simple rare earth metal salt catalysts systems. More information can be found in the Research Article by M. E. Fieser and co‐workers. |
