Cover Feature: Unusual Reactivity and Photophysical Properties of Platinum(II) Pincer Complexes Containing 6,6′‐Diphenyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine Ligands (Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. 2/2021)

The Cover Feature shows the reaction of platinum pincer complexes [Pt(NNC–R)Cl] (where NNC–R is dimethyl 6,6′‐di(C6H4‐X)‐[2,2′‐bipyridine]‐5,5′‐dicarboxylate, X = H, F, OMe) with triphenylphosphine. This reaction does not afford commonly observed substitution of chloride for the phosphine, instead i...

Description
Summary:The Cover Feature shows the reaction of platinum pincer complexes [Pt(NNC–R)Cl] (where NNC–R is dimethyl 6,6′‐di(C6H4‐X)‐[2,2′‐bipyridine]‐5,5′‐dicarboxylate, X = H, F, OMe) with triphenylphosphine. This reaction does not afford commonly observed substitution of chloride for the phosphine, instead insertion of two phosphine ligands into the platinum(II) environment provokes “rollover” re‐coordination of the pincer ligand in the κ1 mode to give an unusual structural pattern stabilized by intramolecular π−π stacking of the aromatic systems of the ligands. More information can be found in the Full Paper by S. P. Tunik and co‐workers.
