Mechanism of the liquid‐phase oxidation of cumene, cyclohexene and tetralin catalysed by MnO 2

Oxygen absorption by solutions of cumene, cyclohexene and tetralin in monochloro‐benzene has been measured at 80, 60 and 65°C with MnO 2 catalyst in the inhibition region, and shows second order rate dependence with respect to hydrocarbon concentration. Description
Summary:Oxygen absorption by solutions of cumene, cyclohexene and tetralin in monochloro‐benzene has been measured at 80, 60 and 65°C with MnO 2 catalyst in the inhibition region, and shows second order rate dependence with respect to hydrocarbon concentration. The limiting rate of oxidation is satisfactorily described by a 3‐parameter equation based on the reaction mechanism proposed by Neuburg et al. Statistical estimates of the parameters for cumene are given from this work and for cyclohexene and tetralin from work presented elsewhere.
