Description
Summary:An ultra wideband (UWB) planar stepped‐fat dipole antenna is developed. The antenna consists of two stepped‐fat arms used for improving the bandwidth of a fat dipole antenna using only two square arms. A prototype antenna is designed and fabricated for high‐resolution UWB image radars. For verification of the performance, reflection coefficient and radiation patterns are measured. Also, the impulse response of the antenna is obtained. It is shown that return loss of the antenna between 0.5 and 2.7 GHz is better than 10 dB. From the impulse response, ringing and dispersion are observed. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
