Summary: | A new photoresponsive bis (crown ether) 1 was synthesized from carboxylic crown ethers and 4,4′ ‐ hydroxy azobenzene, and its ability for the extraction of alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, and partial transition metal ions was also studied. Intriguingly, our results showed that the extraction rate of metal ions by compound 1 after light irradiation was generally more efficient than in the ambient light. Particularly, compound 1 displayed excellent selectivity for Sr2+ under UV light irradiation, as a result of the formation of a sandwich complex with metal ions, suggesting its promising potential application to selectively extract strontium ions.
A new photoresponsive bis (crown ether) 1, containing azobenzene moiety, which undergoes its trans and cis forms by triggering light, can be used to form the inter‐sandwich‐type (1: 1) cation/ 1 complex. |
