Summary: | A practical and mild method was developed for aerobic conversion of benzyl ethers to benzaldehydes with inexpensive HNO3 as the catalyst at room temperature. Various benzyl ethers were transformed to the desired products in low to high yields, and the overoxidation to benzoic acids hardly ever occurred.
A practical and mild method was developed for aerobic conversion of benzyl ethers to benzaldehydes with inexpensive HNO3 as the catalyst at room temperature. Various benzyl ethers were transformed to the desired products in low to high yields, and the overoxidation to benzoic acids hardly ever occurred. The present condition could tolerate the presence of many functional groups such as methyl, fluoro, bromo, nitro, ester and the highly reactive formyl groups. |
