Summary: | The linear stability of a viscoelastic liquid thread surrounded by another viscoelastic liquid is studied. If in the undisturbed state there is no relative motion between the two liquids the results hold without requiring any rheological modeling of the liquids. The complex viscosity, or equivalently the complex modulus will govern the stability behaviour. If in the undisturbed state there is a relative motion (say of velocity u), then model fluids are required and the present analysis will be the model‐free u → 0 limit of such studies. |
