A Comparative Study of Bulk and Supported Chromia Catalysts for the Fluorination of Trichloroethylene
The photoelectron spectroscopy of Cr2O3and impregnated Cr2O3/Al2O3catalysts was studied before and after treatment with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (AHF) and after reaction of trichloroethene (TRI) with AHF. XPS results indicate formation of both hydroxyfluorides and fluorides of Cr and Al. The bind...

Summary: | The photoelectron spectroscopy of Cr2O3and impregnated Cr2O3/Al2O3catalysts was studied before and after treatment with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (AHF) and after reaction of trichloroethene (TRI) with AHF. XPS results indicate formation of both hydroxyfluorides and fluorides of Cr and Al. The binding energy values of the Cr2p3/2levels of oxides, and also of fluorinated species, were found to be different in bulk and supported catalysts. The fluorinated catalysts from Cr2O3and impregnated and coprecipitated Cr2O3/Al2O3exhibit the same order of activity in the fluorination of TRI in terms of conversion and selectivity to 2-chloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane but they differ in life span. Bulk Cr2O3exhibits a longer life span. |
