Description
Summary:This paper describes the architecture and framework for providing Video Recorder (VCR) system services over the computer network. Users, with the client software, can program the system to record specified television broadcast programs as well as playback previously recorded programs. The televised programs are digitized and stored using MPEG-1 standard on a video server. The system provides previewing facility by automatically creating an iconized bitmap video stream from the MPEG-1 video stream. For easy management of the VCR services, a database is set up to control user access as well as user requests for recording and playback. A user-friendly interface is also provided to enable users to easily retrieve the recorded programs.
