Effect of annealing on the structure and phase composition of high-dispersion powder irons modified with organic silicon compounds

High-dispersion powders of Fe (HDP) can be produced in a two-layer bath, usually in the presence of modifiers such as higher fatty acids (HFA) or a mixture of HFA with epoxy oligomers. Since these powders contain a large amount of oxides and organic impurities, they must be reduction annealed which...

description High-dispersion powders of Fe (HDP) can be produced in a two-layer bath, usually in the presence of modifiers such as higher fatty acids (HFA) or a mixture of HFA with epoxy oligomers. Since these powders contain a large amount of oxides and organic impurities, they must be reduction annealed which causes extensive compositional and structural changes. The effects of different organic Si compounds as modifiers were determined. The introduction of these compounds prior to heat treatment leads to aggregation of the particles and an increase in specific surface. After heat treatment, the metallic iron content increases, the phase composition is stabilized, and a protective layer of the cured monomer forms on the particle surfaces.
