A model of Neptune according to the Savic-Kasanin theory

Summary: | The structure and the distributions of temperature, pressure and density in the interior of Neptune are calculated using the pressure-ionization model of Savic and Kasanin (1961-1965). The model input data comprise only the mass, radius and moment of inertia; the results are presented in a graph and a table. A four-zone structure is defined, and the parameter values and profiles are found to be in good agreement with those of more complex models. Differences can be attributed to the crudeness of the present model but also to possible errors in the assumptions required by other models. |
