Summary:Examines alcohol-related expectancies as potentially important determinants of drinking behaviour. Describes the development of a NZ measure of expectancy beliefs, the Drinking Expectancy Questionnaire (DEQ). Reports on a pilot project measuring the expectancy beliefs of 333 community drinkers and 275 college students. Lists the factor analyses of reinforcement domains relating to such expectancies as assertiveness, sexual enhancement, and relaxation.
