Summary:The reaction of lacunary arsenitotungstate [AsW 9 O 33 ] 9− with [M 3 S 4 (H 2 O) 9 ] 4+ in aqueous solution leads to the formation of the complex [{Mo 3 S 4 (H 2 O) 5 }(H 2 AsW 9 O 33 ) 2 ] 10− . X-ray crystal structure analysis of its cesium salt of the composition Cs 5.6 K 4.4 [{Mo 3 S 4 (H 2 O) 5 }(H 2 AsW 9 O 33 ) 2 ]·19.15H 2 O ( 1 ) is reported. Similarly, the reaction of [AsW 9 O 33 ] 9− with [W 3 S 4 (H 2 O) 9 ] 4+ and NaAsO 2 yields [{W 3 S 4 (H 2 O) 5 }(H 2 AsW 9 O 33 )(HAsW 9 O 33 AsOH)] 9− . For K 6.35 (NH 4 ) 2.65 [{W 3 S 4 (H 2 O) 5 }(H 2 AsW 9 O 33 )×(HAsW 9 O 33 AsOH)]·23.7H 2 O ( 2 ) the crystal structure is determined. In both compounds, the {M 3 S 4 } 4+ cluster cores coordinate one polyoxometalate ion, which functions as a bridging ligand between two metal atoms, and one bidentate polyoxometalate. The other five coordination sites at the cluster core are occupied by water molecules. The complex anions form dimeric associates held together by hydrogen bonds and S...S contacts.
