Summary:The phase equilibria occurring in the ErPO 4 –KPO 3 system were investigated by thermoanalytical, X-ray powder diffraction and FTIR methods. On the basis of the obtained results, its phase diagram was proposed. This system includes one intermediate compound, KErP 2 O 7 . This phosphate decomposes peritectically at about 1025 °C and occurs in two polymorphic forms; transformation β/α-KErP 2 O 7 proceeds at about 358 °C. The binary erbium end potassium diphosphate, KErP 2 O 7 , was obtained by the ceramic and modified Pechini methods. Structural properties were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and FTIR spectroscopy.
