Verification of Progeny from Crosses Between Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) and an Intergeneric Hybrid (Erianthus arundinaceus × Saccharum spontaneum) with Molecular Makers

Summary: | To incorporate genes from wild germplasm for broadening the genetic base of sugarcane, crosses of sugarcane (
Saccharum
spp.) × an intergeneric hybrid (
Erianthus arundinaceus
×
Saccharum spontaneum
) were carried out and their progenies were identified by sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) and microsatellite (SSR) molecular markers. A total of 56 SRAP primers and 167 SSR primers were screened and 1 primer pair of each was selected for identification. All 34 progeny were confirmed as hybrids and the results opened opportunities to utilise both
