Description
Summary:Full width at half maximum (FWHM) of an asymmetric apodised point spread function has been investigated by introducing asymmetric phase and amplitude pupil functions. For various amount of amplitude apodization, we have observed that as semi-circular ring width increases half maximum area also increases and then decreases with semi-circular ring width is boosted by degree of amplitude apodization. We have evaluated a new quality criterion, half width at half maximum (HWHM) to discuss distribution of half maximum area on good and bad sides of asymmetric PSF from diffraction center. This criteria is useful to evaluate an optical system is suffering from large amount of aberrations when Rayleigh criterion is not applicable.
