, Euglenophyceae) in a shallow subtropical reservoir used for rain water storage within the area of the Southern Petrochemical Center (30º02′15″S and 51º13′13″W), Municipality of Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. The reservoir covers approximately 15 ha and has a maximum depth of 2 m. Samples were collected monthly at two stations during 14 consecutive months, from February 1995 to March 1996, using a 25-μm mesh plankton net. Of a total of 26
Trachelomonas
Ehr. emend. Defl. taxa previously identified, 15 were presently also studied in detail, including ultrastructure using a scanning electron microscope. The range of limnological conditions under which each taxon was collected is given, as well the distribution of each taxon in Brazil. Most of the 15 taxa are distributed widely throughout the world. |
