Description
Summary:Purpose Numerous women die annually from cervical cancer, which is one of the most common types of cancer affecting women worldwide. The majority of cases of this cancer are brought on by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV). As radiotherapy and chemotherapy methods have side effects and damage healthy cells, natural products, mainly plant extracts, have been investigated for cancer treatment. Methods This review study analyzed the effects of plant extracts and remedies on viral infections such as HPV and cervical cancer from 2000 to 2023. Results The results revealed that plant extracts and products had anticancer activity through mechanisms like inducing apoptosis, helping DNA repair, increasing production of anti-tumor enzymes, blocking HPV-assisted transcription factors, and strengthening the immune system. Conclusion Therefore, they can be recommended as a safe herbal drug.
