Description
Summary:Concrete degradation and steel corrosion in bridge elements are major concerns compromising its structural integrity. This paper presents the benefits of assessing corrosion in bridges with the use of an integrated approach based on half-cell potential (HCP) technique and numerical simulation. Visual inspection and half-cell potential tests were performed in the structural elements whereas the electrochemical potential of corrosion was modelled based on the finite element method. The numerical simulation of potential corrosion presented a good agreement with field tests results. The present study is particularly important for advancing the assessment of corrosion in concrete structures.
