Description
Summary:In response to the increasing apprehensions regarding formaldehyde emissions from traditional wood-based panels and the rising demand for sustainable materials, this study focuses on the development of a high-strength, adhesive-free wood board sourced from Vitex negundo . An environmentally friendly, multi-functional board with exceptional mechanical properties has been successfully manufactured by leveraging hygrothermal synergistic effects including precise control of moisture content, temperature, and pressure. The specified manufacturing parameters namely a 4% moisture content, 175 °C hot-pressing temperature, and 23 MPa pressure, resulted in the production of boards exhibiting a bending strength of 23.17 MPa and a tensile strength of 65.29 MPa. The utilization of natural adhesives aligns with environmental conservation regulations and enhances the resistance of the board to water, flames, and UV radiation. Additionally, the recyclability of the material highlights its potential to foster a circular economy. Overall, these findings establish Vitex negundo wood-based boards as a viable and promising alternative for use in the construction and furniture industries that present economic and environmental advantages.
