ratio, a predominance of dominant alleles was observed in the parents for days to 50% blossoming, days to first harvest, primary branches per plant, harvest duration, average fruit weight, fruit yield and bacterial wilt incidence. Whereas an equivalent contribution of both dominant and recessive genes was observed in lobes per fruit, fruit length, fruit width, pericarp thickness, TSS, plant height as well as marketable fruits per plant. The mean degree of dominance (H1/D)

was more than one for majority of traits thereby indicating over dominance. H2/4H1 ratio showed irregular allocation of positive and negative genes for all the traits studied except lobes per fruit (0.25) and pericarp thickness (0.29). Similar results were revealed by graphical analysis thereby confirming the function of non-allelic interaction i.e., epistatis. The positive estimates of ‘Y’ intercept ‘a’ for all the characters studied suggested partial dominance. |
