Summary:An X-ray diffraction method for analysing portland cement is described and the accuracy and precision determined. Over 200 cements have been analysed using a method which is a modification of that developed by Berger et al (Highway Research Board Special Report 90 234–253 1964). The accuracy of the compound composition determined by this method is similat to that obtained by the Bogue method. Because of the speed of analysis (17 samples can be analysed in a working day) it is suitable for routine analysis.
