Description
Summary:The visible absorption fluorescence and phosporescence spectra and the polarized fluorescence and phosphorescence excitation spectra have been measured for the dimer form of rhodamine B. The rhodamine B dimer is somewhat unique in that it exhibits both fluorescence and phosphorescence whereas other dyes usually exhibit only phosphorescence from the dimer. This unusual situation has permitted us to carry out the first detailed study of the polarized absorption and emission spectra of rhodamine B dimers. Simple exciton theory, commonly used to interpret the spectral properties of dimers, cannot account for the polarization properties of the absorption and emission spectra of the rhodamine B dimer.
