Zero-field optically detected electron spin coherence of photoexcited organic triplet chromophores in Shpol'skii hosts

Summary: | Optically detected electron spin coherence experiments in zero field are shown to be feasible for
randomly oriented triplet chromophores. Pyrene is studied in an
n-hexane Shpol'skii matrix at 1.7 K. As expected, the transient nutation is strongly damped, but two-pulse echoes can be observed with 90° pulse lengths chosen to be roughly one third the length corresponding to the first maximum in the nutation. The echo lifetime is markedly increased by deuteration, in agreement with previous single crystal work. |
