Description
Summary:We study the response of a highly excited Morse oscillator to an intense monochromatic field below resonance. The dynamics are calculated using a Fourier transform grid method. Above a threshold intensity the oscillator dissociates efficiently into a coherent asymptotic wave and a localized distribution of oscillator states. A number of features of the dissociation probability bear a strong resemblance to the microwave ionization of hydrogen.
