Ferroelectric properties of induced smectic C liquid crystalline phases

Spontaneous polarisation P s and tilt angle θ of induced ferroelectric S* c phases in mixed systems were measured as a function of mole fraction χ G. Both quantities depend non-linearly on the composition of the mixture, but the quantity P 0 = P s/sin θ shows a linear dependence on χ G. A new materi...

Description
Summary:Spontaneous polarisation P s and tilt angle θ of induced ferroelectric S* c phases in mixed systems were measured as a function of mole fraction χ G. Both quantities depend non-linearly on the composition of the mixture, but the quantity P 0 = P s/sin θ shows a linear dependence on χ G. A new material constant, the polarisation power δ P = d P 0(χ G)/dχ G, is defined.
