Alkane reactivity with Zr atoms and neutral diatomic ZrO in the gas phase

Absolute rate coefficients for the reactions of isobutane with atomic Zr and neutral diatomic ZrO have been measured in the gas phase, using a fast-flow reactor apparatus. Second-order rate coefficients of (1.2 ± 0.5) × 10 −12 cm 3 s −1 for Zr atoms and (1.1 ± 0.5) × 10 −12 cm 3 s −1 for ZrO were ob...

Description
Summary:Absolute rate coefficients for the reactions of isobutane with atomic Zr and neutral diatomic ZrO have been measured in the gas phase, using a fast-flow reactor apparatus. Second-order rate coefficients of (1.2 ± 0.5) × 10 −12 cm 3 s −1 for Zr atoms and (1.1 ± 0.5) × 10 −12 cm 3 s −1 for ZrO were obtained, indicating that both species are significantly reactive with isobutane. These results represent the first observation of alkane reactivity with a ground-state diatomic transition metal oxide and of unstrained alkane reactivity with ground-state Zr atoms.
