Description
Summary:Ablation of carbon clusters from a graphite surface exposed to 35 ps wide 1064 nm wavelength, laser pulses of intensities of the order of 10 14 W cm −2 yields cluster ions in high charge states. Double and triple coincidence spectra of singly-charged atomic fragments resulting from spontaneous dissociation of C n q+ ions yield evidence that the kinetic energies released are much less than those calculated using ab intio configuration interaction methods.
