Description
Summary:For one-dimensional unsteady non-equilibrium shock tube flows a method of characteristics is developed that treats the boundary layer terms in a specific way. It is shown that a discretization of a boundary layer term tailored to its inverse square root dependence on the distance from the shock front is necessary in order to avoid extremely small step widths. Ionization relaxation in shock tubes is referred to as an example.
