Summary: | PVC mixtures were exposed to radiation of 300–400 nm wavelength, with emission maximum at 345 nm. Structural changes were studied by i.r. and u.v. spectroscopy. The amounts of short and long conjugated sequences formed in the polymer during heat treatment increase with increasing Cd stearate content. These structures are supposed to substantially affect the first stage of exposure of the stabilized polymer. The increase in the exposure time needed for all the Cd stearate to be taken up is related to the amounts of CO groups and conjugated double bonds in the polymer. |
