Summary:Two new aromatic dialdehyde monomers containing the s-triazine ring have been prepared by the reaction of p- and m-hydroxybenzaldehydes with 6-methoxy-2,4-dichloro-s-trazine. Polyazomethines have been synthesized by condensation of these dialdehydes with four aromatic diamines, viz. p-phenylene diamine, m-phenylene diamine, 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl methane, and 4,4′-diaminodephenyl ether. The polymers have been charecterized by i.r. spectroscopy, viscosity measurements, solubility tests, X-ray diffraction studies and thermal analysis.
