Definitive 15 N NMR evidence that water serves as a source of ‘O’ during nitrite oxidation by Nitrobacter agilis

Using 18 O isotope shifts in 15 N NMR it has been shown that during oxidation of nitrite to nitrate by Nitrobacter agilis , the third ‘O’ in nitrate originates from water.
