Summary:The chemical state of iron in sediments from the GT-1 well, located in the Jaisalmer Basin of the Thar desert (Rajasthan, India), has been studied using Mössbauer spectroscopy. Iron is mainly present in the form of pyrite, carbonates and clays. The presence of siderite indicates the presence of a source rock and that of ankerite.
