Summary:Solid urea-n-alkane channel complexes were obtained by reacting urea with calculated amounts of three crude oils (Qua Iboe Light (QIL), Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP), and Brass Blend (BB)) from different Nigerian wells. A fourth Nigerian crude, Bonny Light (BL), gave no adduct with urea under the same conditions. Decomposition of the complexes gave n-paraffins whose weight distributions were analysed by gas chromatography. BB gave n-paraffins of homologous series from C 7 to C 34, while those from QIL and TNP each ranged from C 9 to C 34. Calculation of ratios of odd to even carbon numbers showed a slight predominance of odd-numbered n-paraffins. Experimental data also suggest that BB, QIL and TNP are of the same stratigraphie horizon and geographical region, but different from BL.
