Summary: | The surface charge properties of colloidal particles of an Entic Haplustoll soil were examined by using potentiometric titrations and the effects of organic matter on these properties at a pH near the field pH of the soil were investigated.
The colloidal soil particles carried negative charges in both horizons studied and in a wide pH range, as indicated by their low apparent zero point charge (AZPC) values (pH < 2).
The soil studied had clay minerals with predominant negative permanent charges. The contribution of variable negative charges due to soil organic matter becomes more important as the pH values increase. |
