Summary: | Previous treatments of the intensity distribution along charge-exchange continua in the 180-degree magnetic sector and Mattauch-Herzog instruments have been based on a rectangular coordinate analysis that is diffuclt to extend to instruments with sector angles other than 180°. A trigonometric treatment applicable to sector instruments of any angle has been developed. Complete trajectory and intensity distribution data can be obtained for ions involved in the charge-exchange process. Representative data for the 2+ to 1+ charge exchange are presented for sector angles of 60, 90, 120 and 180°. |
