Summary: | Stress waves emitted during tensile fracture of thin soda-lime glass plates have been measured using conventional strain-gage techniques. A rather novel method of obtaining a triggering signal is also described. It was found that for the case of points lying on the prospective fracture plane, where the analytical solutions are available, the theory and the experiments agree quite well. Experimental results were also obtained for points some small distance away from the crack path. |
