Summary: | Fly ash samples produced during the combustion of a South African bituminous coal (AMCOAL), and collected at the inlet and outlet of a pilot ElectroStatic Precipitator (ESP) with a standard isokinetic integral probe, are analyzed for elemental bulk and surface and phase compositions. The ESP was operated with either continuous or pulsed energization over a wide range of Specific Collection Areas (SCA) and electrode spacing. The collection efficiencies varied from 92.5% to 99.8%.
Relative enrichment of volatile species is evident upon increase of collection efficiency, even though the total amount decreases. Quantitative XRD analysis indicates the concentration of quartz, magnetite and lime decrease from the inlet to the outlet of the ESP. |
