Description
Summary:We report the development of a new technique for analyzing a mixture of different charged macromolecules. This technique combines light scattering and electrophoresis to permit the simultaneous determination of the electrophoretic mobilities and diffusion coefficients of charged macromolecules in solution. High resolution experiments on bovine serum albumin (BSA) have provided both the electrophoretic mobility and diffusion coefficient within a standard deviation of 5%. We report also the first observation of analytical separation of multicomponent systems by this technique. Distinct resolution for the systems BSA-BSA dimers and BSA-BSA dimersfibrinogen has been achieved. Finally we discuss potential extensions and applications of this technique.
