Summary: | Hydrothermally grown single crystals of calcite have been examined. They are of two types: crystals grown from a rhomboedral seed and spontaneously nucleated plates. Lattice defects have been studied by X-ray Lang topography. The dislocation densities, their distribution and preferred orientations are described. An interpretation is proposed for the origin of the many dislocation bundles observed. |
