Description
Summary:Complete, precise analyses of the NMR spectral parameters of the title compounds (AXX′X″X′A′ type spectra) are reported, both as neat liquids and in solutions of widely different polarities. Although it was impossible to assess the relative amounts of each rotational conformer present, it was possible to apply knowledge of the rotational behavior in related molecules to removing ambiguities in the signs of some coupling constants. Also, the effects of various substituents on long-range H-F couplings in these and several related fluoroacetones are discussed and a correlation between these parameters and the Huggins electronegativities of the substituents reported.
