Dynamic disorder of (CH 3) 4N + in (CH 3) 4NX (X = Cl, Br and I) as studied by Raman spectroscopy
Vibrational assignments of the observed bands in the Raman spectra of tetramethyl ammonium (TMA) halides at 300 and 100 K are proposed. The splitting of the C 4N totally symmetric mode ν 3( A 1) in the iodide is discussed in terms of a disordered structure. The temperature induced variations of inte...

The temperature induced variations of intensities of the components suggest occupation of two different sites which correspond to two different orientations of the TMA ion: parallel and perpendicular. Their energy difference is deduced to be 0.43 kcal mol
