Raman and far infrared spectra and conformational analysis of some dichloropropenes

The Raman spectra of gaseous, liquid and solid 2,3-dichloropropene, CH 2=C(CH 2Cl)Cl and both trans and cis-1,3-dichloropropene, ClHC=CH(CH 2Cl) have been recorded. For the first two molecules both the anticlinal ( gauche) and synclinal ( s-cis) conformers have been observed in the fluid states at a...

Description
Summary:The Raman spectra of gaseous, liquid and solid 2,3-dichloropropene, CH 2=C(CH 2Cl)Cl and both trans and cis-1,3-dichloropropene, ClHC=CH(CH 2Cl) have been recorded. For the first two molecules both the anticlinal ( gauche) and synclinal ( s-cis) conformers have been observed in the fluid states at ambient temperature whereas for the latter molecule only the anticlinal conformer is present in all three physical states. Conformational stabilities have been determined from the temperature dependence of the Raman spectrum.
