Description
Summary:A combination of time-dependent Effective Medium Theory and Linear Response Theory is used to determine the loss rates of interstitials and vacancies to saturable solute atom traps during pulsed irradiation. The results are couched in terms of the differences the loss rates assume when compared to those given by using steady state sink strengths and emission rates. It is shown that the approximation of employing the latter leads to a negligible error in the long-time behavior of the system. The analysis of specific examples lends support to the proposition that the behavior under pulsed irradiation should conform to that of uniform irradiation at the mean dose rate in systems in which trapping is able to mitigate void swelling.
