On the validity of the lyddane-sachs-teller relation at long wavelengths

Among the polarization modes of an ionic crystal there exists no Lyddane-Sachs-Teller relation for very long wavelengths. The implication in certain recent experiments that the LST relation is valid at k = 0 is shown to be due to misinterpretation of the theory and the experimental data.
