Loudness and pitch sensations of an impulsive sound of very short duration

From the measured waveform caused by firing a pistol shot in anechoic listening conditions theoretical evaluations of the absolute loudness and pitch sensations have been investigated. Description
Summary:From the measured waveform caused by firing a pistol shot in anechoic listening conditions theoretical evaluations of the absolute loudness and pitch sensations have been investigated. Experimental results give support to the method of evaluation used and show that, for short duration transient sounds, the ear integrates the weighted sound energy —to form a loudness judgment.
